Act Locally Think Globally 
Many people in our Region don't know that shaking a baby or a toddler can be dangerous. Our strategy of prevention is two fold.

1. Educate the public about the serious medical and legal consequences of shaking a baby, provide medical and legal consequences of shaking a baby, provide methods of coping with the stressful demands of a crying baby or difficult toddler as well as guidance on caregivers selection.
2. Deliver to those who are at higher risk of shaking a baby tailored messaging along with coping information and equip those providing guidance and service to high-risk groups with the appropriate SBS (Shaken Baby Syndrome) prevention resources.

The video accompanied by video user guide and the SBS background information provides many ideas and information for educators. This video will contribute to public awareness and facilitate the development of local initiatives across the country targeted at preventing further tragedies. It would be possible in the future to share more information with community and Kiwanis groups across other regions in Canada and U.S.A. as we learn from the Regional Public awareness campaign commencing in the fall of 1999.

Education is Prevention 
A major step in prevention will be achieved if the message "Never Shake a Baby", can be made part of our culture, just like "Don't Drink and Drive". This video can be a powerful medium for communicating the message and increasing awareness of the problem. This video is already shaping attitude and creating an overall strong impact on the viewing audience, their circle of friends and relatives.

The Kiwanis International Foundation has provided grants to the production of the video, as well as many other projects.
